Gerard (Jerry) L. Abrams, 93, of Sarasota, Florida passed away March 13, 2024. He was born in Manhattan, New York and moved to Sarasota from Massachusetts in 1993. Jerry was fortunate to have traveled and lived all over the country given that he worked as an Aerospace Engineer. He proudly served in the United States Army.
Jerry lived an extraordinary and fascinating life. He received numerous degrees and certificates in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, HVAC, and other science technology disciplines. He worked in multiple high security aeronautical firms such as Lockhead Martin, Sperry Gyroscope, Grummond, and General Dynamics while consulting with NASA on the Apollo Program and other NASA projects. After leaving the aeronautical field Jerry went into the HVAC profession and was licensed in Massachusetts, New York, and Florida where he was the owner and operator of two HVAC companies. He was a lifetime member of ASHRAE, Kiwanis, and the Classic Car Club of America. His hobbies ranged from restoring a 1943 Lincoln Continental, house remodeling, inventing various items to assist with daily life, photography, traveling the world, USA vexillology (collecting flags), bowling, and collecting antiquities. He was always ahead of his time and forever looking into the future.
He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Marcia Weingard Abrams; his parents, Jules and Alice Abrams; his brother, Larry Abrams; and his daughter in law, Lauri Abrams. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Beth Bourbeau (Stephen); sons, Randy Abrams (Marlene) and David Abrams; brother, Ray Abrams (Alice); granddaughter, Alicia Casals (Henry); grandson, James Bourbeau (Alison); great-grandchildren, Lolina Casals, Benjamin Bourbeau, and Rebecca Bourbeau; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the country.
