Gerard "Jerry" Patrick Brunick, Jr. passed away at home on December 19, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on May 31,1946 and was preceded in death by his parents Gerard Patrick Brunick and Anna Patrice Lydon Brunick. He is survived by his wife of fifty years Linda Leigh Hunter Brunick and by his son Gerard Patrick Brunick, III and his wife Jessica Cooper of Laurel, MD, and his daughter Hunter Michelle Brunick Benson and her husband Mark Benson of Cohoes, NY. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Vandy Grace Benson, Lydon Michelle Benson, Hannum Leigh Benson, and Mark Allen Benson, Jr.
Jerry loved his family and was the oldest of eight children. He is survived by his siblings Cathy Brunick, Kevin Brunick (Kathy), Deborah Brunick (Russ Chandler), Michael Brunick (Leslie), Brian Brunick (Linda), Dan Brunick (Caren), and Timothy Brunick. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jerry loved celebrating the Fourth of July and Christmas with his family and will be dearly missed at these events.
He graduated from St. John Vianney High School outside of Richmond, VA and then attended Old Dominion University where he met his wife, Linda. While at ODU he and Linda became fans and supporters of ODU men's basketball. From 1989 through 2023 Jerry served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation and was elected Chairman of the Foundation in 2003. On December 6, 2023 he was appointed as Director Emeritus of the Foundation.
Jerry began his career as a surveyor with the civil engineering company, Talbot & Associates, LTD in the early 1970s and later founded Engineering Services, Inc. with Pete Burkhimer. Jerry and Pete owned and operated ESI until the summer of 2015 when Jerry retired to spend more time with his grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and memorial donations may be made to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

Jerry will forever be remembered as a giving soul. He and Pete taught me how to be a great leader with their people driven management style. Relationships and teamwork are so much more important than money. Humor was Jerry´s forte. After my father´s funeral, Jerry came up to me and said, "I am very disappointed. I thought you always lived in Chesapeake... but now I know you're a Carpetbagger!" My response was, "I was five!" Almost 25 years later, that´s my memory of my dad´s funeral... not tears... laughter.

Big hug to my ESI family along with the Brunick and Bensons. I know Jerry made his mark on this world with his integrity, giving nature, patience with Pete and his sense of humor.

Jerry was one of the kindest people I have known and I am grieving his death.

My heart goes out to the Brunick family in this time of grief.

May Jerry´s kindness be long remembered and may he rest in eternal peace.

I worked for ESI for 12 years and Gerard was one of the kindest people I've ever known. He cared for people, had a wonderful sense of humor and so much patience with all of us! I offer my deepest sympathies to all his family and friends.
