Gerard Fee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main St. from Nov. 11 to Nov. 12, 2022.
Gerard Wayne "Jere" Cowle Fee was born in North Fairfield, OH on 2/12/33 to Cleland Randolph and Helen Marcella Cole. An exceptionally gifted student he received his Bachelor degree from Washington and Lee University (1955). A Fulbright Scholar he went on to receive his Bachelors degree from Washington and Lee University and his Bachelor of Letters from the Queens college at Oxford University (1959). He said that his greatest memories were of his time at Oxford. He fondly recalled writing his thesis on the Spanish Civil War in the evenings after the smog had settled. His neighbor would play the piano and a nightingale would accompany the music with its singing. After leaving Oxford he did post graduate work at the University of Madrid. He spent most of his life abroad and had a wonderful depth of knowledge gained from his many varied travels. He was an accomplished businessman throughout his life and held many different positions through many different industries. He was the assistant to the President of Lake Erie College, Paintsville, OH, a director with the Lexington School, and the executive director of the Ohio State Pharmacy Association. He served on several boards including the Ohio State Optometry Board and the Institute of Internal Auditors in Altamonte Springs, FL. He was a guest lecturer at many universities ranging from Tokyo, to Madrid, and to London. He was a member of the Oxford Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Sigma Alpha and was a vestry member of Christ Church Anglican. He was proud of his family heritage and was granted the title Hereditary Keeper of the Records of the Lords of the Isles. He spent many years doting over his family history gathering documents from centuries ago about his family lineage and their additions to history. Jere, as known to his friends, had a huge heart for all animals; especially cats. He will share his final resting place with his cats Jotero, Coco, and Su-Ying. He loved hosting his friends, Glenn Fiddich Scotch, esoteric knowledge of the Royal Family, and telling stories about his fascinating life and extensive travels. From hiking in Norway, to meeting the Dalai Lama; Jeri's was a life well lived. Preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister Sandra Fee, he leaves behind his best friends Virgina "Jenny" Shuman, Jennifer Locker, his cat that he affectionately referred to as Princess, and many friends that loved him and will miss him every day. A funeral service will be held 12pm Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Main Street. Burial will be private at Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, OH. Visitation will be Saturday from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home.

"Skip" was what my family knew him as. My family and his family were good friends and his family was in attendance at my wedding where he eloquently
read at the reception a letter my father-in-law had written when he could not attend our wedding. We all remember how well he spoke using British accent
he had mastered.

Jere Fee was quite a guy. I worked with him at the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association. He originally "got me into the wine business" when he told me, "If you really love a subject, the best way to learn it in depth is to teach it." That is exactly what I did, and continued to do so, for close to 50 years.
