Gerard Vincent "Jerry" / "Brother" Gallagher, 74, of
Jersey City, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at Bayshore Medical Center, Holmdel NJ. Known for his warm heart, steadfast work ethic, and love of family, Jerry will be remembered deeply by all who knew him.
Born on March 9, 1951, in Greenwich Village, New York City, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Joseph Gallagher, Sr. and Rose Cafaro Gallagher. A proud native New Yorker, Jerry grew up in a lively household alongside his siblings and cousins-Joseph Gallagher, Jr., Robert Gallagher, Sr., and Thomas Gallagher, Sr., all of whom preceded him in death. Jerry was raised by his father and his loving Aunt, Carmela Cafaro Doherty. Jerry shared a lifelong bond with his two surviving cousins whom he loved like sisters, Eileen Koehler and Catherine Barrese.
Those closest to him lovingly nicknamed him "Brother", as he was the youngest of four brothers. He formed deep family bonds that would shape his life and values. From an early age, Jerry developed a strong sense of perseverance, commitment, integrity, and compassion, characteristics that would define both his personal and professional life.
In his final years, Brother was cared for by his devoted cousins Eileen & Brian Koehler, Eileen Koehler, Jr., Meg Stagliano & Alex Stagliano.
Jerry spent more than three decades serving the community as a dedicated United States Postal Worker, taking great pride in his work and the friendships he built along the way. His dependable nature, quick wit, and easy smile made him a cherished coworker and a beloved friend to many. He took satisfaction in doing his job well, while also finding ways to make others laugh, and happily lending a helping hand when needed. He received numerous commendations while working for the postal service.
Sports were one of Jerry's lifelong passions. Whether he was cheering on the New York Mets, Rutgers University, or the Alabama Crimson Tide, his enthusiasm was unmatched. Every game day brought out his signature excitement and team spirit-a reflection of his loyalty and zest for life. He truly enjoyed good company, good conversation, and the shared joy that came from being surrounded by friends and family, whom he valued above all else.
Those close to him will remember Jerry for his generosity, loyalty, and hearty laugh. He treasured time spent with his family and friends, always showing care, patience and an easygoing spirit that made others feel welcome. Cherished by many, Jerry is survived by his loving cousins, nieces, and nephews across the country.
Funeral services to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Friday, January 30, at Laurel Funeral Parlor in Hazlet, New Jersey. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a man who brought humor and love to all around him.
In his final act of kindness, Gerard gave the gift of life through tissue donation. Though he is gone from our sight, his compassion and memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
