Michael Gallagher

Michael Gallagher took his leave of this world - quietly, on his own terms - leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and honorable service.

A proud Irishman through and through, Michael loved his family and friends in his own way. He was the kind of man who could sit quietly in a room, listening to everyone, or hold a room with a well-timed tale and a bit of humor. His stories - some polished, some embellished - will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to hear them.

Before answering the call to serve in law enforcement, Michael had a passion for baking. He later dedicated more than 20 years to law enforcement, beginning his career with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. During his service there, he proudly stood honor during President Clinton's 1993 inauguration.

Michael eventually returned home to Rochelle Park, where he continued his commitment to serve and protect his community with the Rochelle Park Police Department until his retirement. He was a member of the Honor Legion and was immensely proud of his profession and of the men and women who wear the badge.

When not in uniform, Michael could often be found where he felt most at peace - on a sunny day by the ocean, fishing along the beach, or spending time with his beloved dogs. He appreciated life's simple joys: sitting with his parents, time spent during family visits, a good laugh, and the quiet rhythm of the water.

Michael was predeceased by his loving mother, Elaine Gallagher. He is survived by his father, James Gallagher; his brothers, Terry (Diane) Gallagher and Chris (Becky Leeming) Gallagher; and his cherished daughter, Brianna Gallagher, who was the light of his life and his greatest pride.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, Rochelle Park. Cremation will be private.

Though he has made his Irish exit, the stories and passion he shared will remain with us always. May he rest in eternal peace.
