Gerard Kendrick LeBlanc
January 29, 1963 - June 4, 2024
Gerard "Kendrick" LeBlanc died surrounded by his family in Houston, Texas, at St. Luke's Episcopal Medical Center, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, as a result of complications due to liver and kidney disease. He was born on January 29, 1963. Kendrick was a long-time resident of Bryan, Texas, and a native of Plaquemine, Louisiana.
He was a graduate of the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge and Southeastern Louisiana University. Upon graduation from college with a degree in Animal Science, he began his career working for Grenada Equine Research in horse embryo transfer in Wheelock, Texas. For thirty years he worked for Texas A & M University (TAMU) in College Station, Texas, thus beginning the development of his love for the veterinary field and animal science. During his tenure at TAMU, he worked as a technician in the School of Veterinary Medicine, becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). As a lifelong learner, he transitioned to research and moved to the Animal Science division of TAMU as a Research Analyst and Farm Manager, until his retirement in 2022. He was an avid Aggie fan despite his Louisiana roots. Kendrick served as the President of the Reliance Baptist Church Cemetery Association and was on the Texas Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He also raised cattle along with his wife, her family, and his sons, managing the Morgan Humphries Homestead Cattle Ranch.
Kendrick was the first-born child of Janie and Jerry LeBlanc, making them parents one year after their marriage in 1962. He went on to high school and college in Louisiana and then became a Texan, where he met the love of his life Carla Armstrong LeBlanc in 1992. Together they raised their two boys Bill and Dylan. He was a humble servant who treated all whom he met in his very own caring way with a superior wit-that continues in each of his boys today. Kendrick loved quarter horses, cattle ranching, fishing on the ranch, and hunting. He spent every summer of his early life fishing on Grand Isle, Louisiana, with his brothers and sister and cousins-Rickie, Michael, Angele, Kitty, Carolyn, Sudie, Haughton, Mary, Beyn, Renee, and Ann. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Kendrick is survived by his loving wife Carla Armstrong LeBlanc; his sons, Bill LeBlanc and Dylan LeBlanc and his wife Allison; his parents, Janie and Jerry LeBlanc; his brother Stephen LeBlanc and nieces Anne-Caroline, fiancé Alex Hedrick, and Cate LeBlanc; his brother David LeBlanc, niece Abigail and nephews Andrew and Samuel; his sister Jane Edwards and her husband Kevin, and nieces Ashley Edwards Newbern and her husband Jacob, and Lauren Edwards. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Chinkie Cointment and her partner Patsy Picard, Gwen and Dickie LeBlanc, Diana LeBlanc, Sue and Jimmy Bridges, and Dawn and Johnny LeBlanc. His mother-in-law Claudia Jones, sister-in-law, Donna Florence, niece Morgan Florence and partner Chris Lenz, great niece Lilly, nephew Cade Humphries, wife Bridget and great niece Josie. Brother-in law Tim Armstrong; sister-in-law Meredith Burke her husband Ross; and niece Vivian.
Kendrick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Althea and J.D. Cointment and Genevieve and Sonny LeBlanc; his name's sake Calvin Kendrick Schwing, Jr.; his aunt and uncle, Kay and Joe Cointment; his uncle Tommy LeBlanc; his father-in-law Don Armstrong and stepfather-in-law Lonnie Jones; his brother-in-law Christopher Armstrong; his grandparents-in-law, Polly and Woody Humphries; and uncle-in-law, Bill Humphries.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude for the compassionate care given to Kendrick by the staff and physicians of St. Joseph's Medical Center, Bryan, Texas, and St. Luke's Episcopal Medical Center, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Reliance Baptist Church at 5925 Reliance Church Rd., Bryan, TX 77808; or the Plaquemine Protestant Cemetery Foundation at 58905 St Louis Rd., Plaquemine, LA 70764; or the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge at 3200 Woodland Ridge Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
Life's transitions are a time of mourning but also a time of celebration and remembrance. As such, the family asks guests to dress for celebration, avoiding traditional black attire. Our hope is to share stories and joy among friends, knowing laughter reaches heaven faster than tears.
