ROCKFORD – Gerhard Mesdag, age 92, of Rockford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Friday October 11, 2024. Born in Lingen (Ems), Germany on June 21, 1932 to Johann & Maria Mesdag (Frantzen). An avid fisherman in freshwater and the open ocean, Gerhard enjoyed the RV life on the road with his wife traveling the globe. Veteran of the US Army and proud member of the Blackhawk Athletic Club, Rockford Lithuanian Club and the German Society of Rockford. Beloved father, grand & great grandfather and dear friend; he will remain forever in our hearts.
He is survived by children, Kurt (Margaret) Mesdag and Deonel Hardy; granddaughter, Ashley Hardy; great grandchildren, Christian & Elijah Hardt; numerous nieces & nephews; and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Carol Ann Mesdag (Rice), son, Mark J. Mesdag; and his parents.
Celebration of Life Memorial held Saturday October 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Cremation rites accorded. Memorials to the family.

Dear Mesdag family,

A life full of energy and joy has come to an end.
Gerd's enthusiasm and energy was infectious and we will miss his warm-hearted nature. We are grateful that Gerd always kept in touch despite the distance.
