Gertrude Margaret Myers (née Villani) passed peacefully to Heaven on February 23, 2024 surrounded by family. She is joyfully reunited with all of her family and friends who went before her.
Gert was predeceased by her first husband Edmund D Clayton, and her oldest son Robert Clayton.
She is survived by her husband Michael C Myers, who stood by her through all of the challenges of the past few years.
Gert is also survived by son David Clayton, son Martin Clayton and wife Susan, son Steven Clayton and wife Rita, daughter Elizabeth Dellinger and husband Patrick; grandchildren Shannon Eshelman and husband Ryan, Ian Clayton and wife Caitlyn, Tyler Clayton and wife Stephanie, Andrew Clayton and wife Abigail, Joseph Dellinger, Rebecca Dellinger and partner Ryan Myers, Daniel Dellinger and partner Madison Schwester; great-grandchildren Taylor Eshelman, Alexis Eshelman, Wilder Clayton, Maverick Clayton, Tallulah Clayton, Paisley Clayton, Aria Clayton, Lavinia Clayton, Nova Clayton, Nolan Clayton, and Reina Clayton.
Born in Jersey City, NJ to Loretta (Talbot) and Samuel Villani on Sep 16, 1929, Gert survived despite being a tiny premature baby. That tenacity served her well throughout life, and is probably why she lived to a robust 94 years old! She graduated from St Michael's High School, where she proudly marched as Head Majorette. Throughout her life, she volunteered in many capacities, first at St Joseph parish in Union City, NJ, and in York at both St Joseph and St Mary's parishes. Over the years she sang in choirs, cleaned the church, taught Religious Education, and served as a secretary in the rectory. Both Gert and Mike enjoyed the time they spent with the Golden Nuggets group at St Mary's, and with the group of friends they made at Longstown Village.
She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, even the ones she had yet to meet!
Gert enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and taking photographs of the sky. She asks that you listen to "Beyond the Blue Horizon" sung by Lou Christie, and think of her!
Thank you to the staff at Autumn House East and White Rose Hospice. To all who lovingly cared for her, you know who you are and we truly appreciate you!
A viewing will be held from 10-11am Thursday, February 29, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd. York. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am with Rev. Kyle Sahd as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. East York is assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pappus House, who so lovingly cared for Gert's son Bob in his final months of life. www.pappushouse.org
