Mrs. Gertrude V. "Gertie" Robertson Parnell, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025.
She was born in State Line, Mississippi on March 2, 1939. She dedicated her life to her husband, Buddy Parnell and her children, Sally, Sharon, John and Phillip. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and lived her life according to God's word.
Mrs. Gertie loved flowers and would collect cuttings of plants and flowers any time she visited with family and friends. She took pride in her flower garden and always had bouquets to share. She also loved children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the heart of her family and was always there to help in any capacity with a listening ear and a warm hug. She welcomed all friends and family into her home. She leaves a legacy of kindness and strength.
Whether you knew her as Moma, Granny, Gertie, Aunt Gertie or Mrs. Gertie, she will be remembered as an amazing person with a good heart and a strong spirit who was loved by so many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe "Buddy" Parnell, Jr.; granddaughter, Elana Roberts; great granddaughter, Morgan Mooney; parents, John and Modena Robertson; brothers, R.C. Robertson, John Robertson, Jr., M.L. Robertson, Emmitt Robertson, Cecil Robertson and Ed Robertson (Betty); sisters, Callie Williams, Mildred Franklin, Arlene Dearman and Margie Davis.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sally Mooney (Rodney), Sharon Grasha (David), John Parnell (Brenda) and Phillip Parnell (Jeanette); grandchildren, Nicole Davis (Steve), Clayton Roberts (Amy), Allen Mooney, Malori Al-Suwaidi (Allen), Jason Parnell (Jennifer), Alex Parnell (Courtney), Ashley Risen (Charles), Chris Parnell (Heather), Tyler Parnell, and Adam Pierce; great Grandchildren, Rae'Ven Bardow (Gaylen), Hunter Davis, E'Lana Mooney, Taylor Mooney, Maris Al-Suwaidi, Oren Al-Suwaidi, Zachary Parnell, Natalie Parnell, Edward Wiggs (Chloe), E'Lana Parnell, Lexy Parnell, Colby Risen (Krysten), Cameron Parnell, Ashleigh Swartz, and Kelianne Swartz; great-great Grandchildren, Bailey Bardow, Heath Bardow, Colt Risen, and Kida Wiggs; siblings, Bonnie Pulliam (Jerry), Violet Kendrick, Herbert Robertson (Diane); a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM at Freefield Church of Christ. The Funeral will follow at 10:30 AM in the church sanctuary with Bro. Bill Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Freefield Cemetery. Pallbearers include Clay Roberts, Allen Mooney, Jason Parnell, Alex Parnell, Chris Parnell, and Tyler Parnell. Honorary pallbearers are Allen Al-Sawaidi, Hunter Davis, Steve Davis, Adam Pierce, and Colby Risen.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Greene County Health and Rehab and Hospice who provided loving care of Mrs. Gertie over the years.
