Gilbert Harrison Baker, age 65, of Louisville, Kentucky and formally of Boyd County Kentucky, passed gently away on August 23rd, 2023, at Baptist Hospital in New Albany, IN.
Gilbert, affectionately known as "Gibby" was born on a chilly Ashland, Kentucky day on February 24th in 1958. He was the blessing of the late Gilbert and Julia Emma Hoff Baker. Gibby was a 1976 graduate of Fairview High School. After working many years for C&O railroad, Gibby returned to school and obtained a nursing degree from Ashland Community College in 1993. He proudly cared for the community of Boyd County as a Registered Nurse at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Gibby enjoyed so many things in his life but nothing more than 18 holes on the golf course. Like most people from Kentucky, he loved watching his UK Wildcats play basketball. He also enjoyed a good Cincinnati Reds game. Gibby was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Gibby is survived by his wife Elizabeth Waugh Baker of Catlettsburg, KY; two children Anna Elizabeth Baker and Aaron Gilbert Baker, both of Catlettsburg, KY; one sister Angela Baker Springate and her husband Tony of Louisville, KY; one niece Dr. Julia Springate Spalding and her husband David of Louisville, KY; one nephew Anthony Springate Jr. of Louisville, KY and one special Aunt, Cheri Hoff Woods of Bellefonte. Also surviving is Jack, his devoted companion and fur baby of many years.
Gibby was under the care of his loving sister and her family for the past three years.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023, at Neal Funeral Home located at 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg, from 5pm to 8pm. A ceremony provided by the Nurse Honor Guard will take place at 7pm during visitation.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday August 30th at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens beginning at 10am with Pastor Jeff Canfield bringing words of comfort.

My name is Linda, I had the small pleasure of knowing Mr. Baker for a very brief time over the last year or so.... he was a gentle giant and we both enjoyed reading and having in-depth discussions regarding the books we were currently reading.... he will be missed and the lack of his presence will be felt by all of us at Lincoln Hills
