Gilbert was born on April 11, 1957, to Richard Barela and Mary Gauna in Fort Sumner, NM. Gilbert was a hard worker, working for Ed's Recycling for many years. He enjoyed being around his grandchildren, fixing old cars, working in his yard and spending time with his wife Pearl whom he was married to for 40 years. Gilbert loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Barela of the home; children, Carlos Juan (Stephine) Mares of Clovis, NM, Denise (Robert Montoya) Mares of Las Lunas, NM, Diane (David Garcia) Mares of Clovis, NM, Leticia Barela of Clovis, NM, Bianca Barela of Clovis, NM, Gilbert (Martina) Mares of Portales, NM and Heather Aragon; siblings, Dorothy (Roy) Pelland of Wisconsin, Jerry (Nora) Barela of Clovis, NM, and Mario and (Rebecca) Barela of Clovis, NM; 17 great grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Barela; and brothers, Bobby Gauna and Tommy Barela.
