The family of Gilbert "Gil" Eugene Dorer is saddened to announce his passing on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the age of 92.

On September 11, 1932, Gil was born and raised in Holt, Michigan to Steve and Gladys Dorer. As a child he had a paper route and acquired many other routes, and actually had other kids working for him. He raised pet crows that stole anything shiny. Gil served in the Army and was a Korean War Veteran. In 1957 Gil married Janice (Jan) Bovay Dorer. After graduating from Central Michigan University, he spent the next 14 years being a teacher/counselor at Utica High School. By this time Jan was an accomplished painter, so they took a risk and created Dorer Studio, which was very successful. They spent their lives selling her paintings at Art Shows throughout the Midwest and South. Gil's social skills were perfect to become a salesperson for Jan's artwork. After Jan's passing in 2010, Gil relocated to Dunedin, Florida and met his partner, Beverly Hatcher. They loved seeing the ocean from his condo on Honeymoon Island, talking to friends, walking the causeway, and fishing off the dock that he kept clean daily. He was an avid fan to the University of Michigan "Go Blue" women's softball, golf, and unfortunately Tom Brady.

Gil is survived by his loving children: Cyndy (Jennifer) and Bob (Sally), his grandchildren Ethan and Jenna, his partner Beverly, and his brother Gary, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Jack, David, and sister Betty.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
