Gilbert "Gib" L. Snooks, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in his lifelong home of Monroe County, Indiana. Born on March 28, 1943, to Harold and Mary (Ridge) Snooks, Gib's life was a demonstration to his faith, hard work, and the love he had for his family and community.
Gib's journey began in the rolling hills of Monroe County, where he was raised and later met the love of his life, Paula Snooks (Bolinger). The two were united in marriage on September 1, 1963, and together they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Gib was a devoted father to his children, Pam Kelp (Dak), and Andrew Snooks (Lisa), and he took immense pride in his role as "Gramps" to his beloved grandchildren, Alex, Shelby (Frank Noguera Villarroel), Makenzie (Conor Miller), Kristin, and Nick Kelp (Lacy).
Professionally, Gib was known for his skilled hands and keen mind. He retired as an electrician from GM Central Foundry Bedford, having also worked at Sarkes Tarzian Inc. and as a farmer. His work ethic was unmatched, and his expertise was respected by all who knew him. Gib's commitment to his craft extended beyond his job as he was an active member of the IBEW Local Union 16 and the NRA. Gib's interests were as vast as his heart. A lifelong member of Maple Grove Christian Church, he found his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and dedicated many hours to working at the church. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in all his endeavors. Gib's passion for farming never waned, and he could often be found taking his antique tractors to fairs and shows, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the countryside. His talents as an avid woodworker and collector of bluegrass tools and other unique tools were admired by many.
A man of few words, Gib's actions spoke volumes about his character. He was always willing to lend a hand, whether it was fixing something that was broken, offering wise counsel, or simply being there when someone needed him. His presence was a comfort and his contributions, immeasurable.
Gib's legacy is one of a faith-filled, thoughtful, and kind man who lived his life with purpose and grace. He was loved deeply by his family and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Gib's memory will be carried on in the hearts of his survivors, including his wife Paula, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren, his in-laws Jerry and Sharon Bolinger, his niece Chris Duncan (Jack, deceased), and his nephew Michael Bolinger (Vince Ramirez).
Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Snooks, Gib's spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to be a part of his life.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday at the funeral home at 10:00 am with interment to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
