Gillian Helen Fry Lewis Barnett passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 28th, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on July 5, 1939, in London, England, Gillian brought grace, intelligence, and warmth into the lives of those who knew her. She was a model in her twenties, doing numerous ads for Kodak and other companies during the early 1960's. and she lived in London, Bristol and then Edinburgh where she met and married the love of her life, Cecil C. "Barney" Barnett in 1973. In 1978, she and Barney and her two sons relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring friendships. Gillian and Barney shared 46 devoted years of marriage until his passing, and their bond remains a testament to lasting love and companionship. Gill was a member of Louisville Country Club and a proud supporter of the Red Cross and West End School over the years.
Gillian is survived by her sister, Joan Glenister from Wales, her two sons, James Melhuish (Patricia Mae) and Nicolas Melhuish (Ursula), both of Louisville; and by her two stepdaughters, Pamela Coughenour and Susan Smith, both of Texas. She was a cherished grandmother to Adam Barnett Melhuish, Owen Nicolas Melhuish, and Nola James Melhuish, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Gillian will be remembered for her keen mind, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she so dearly loved. Special thanks go to Hosparus Health and her wonderful caregivers for their devoted care and love during her final week.
