Patrick Maurice Payne, Jr., age 89 of Louisville, passed away September 30, 2025.

Patrick M. "Pat" Payne was born in Hazard, Kentucky on September 28, 1936. His family moved to Louisville in 1944. Pat was a member of Castlewood Athletic Club and the Delphic Literary Society during his years before graduating from Atherton High School. He earned his B.S. in Commerce from the University of Kentucky and was a life member of the UK Alumni Association. While at UK he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Social Fraternity and he received a commission in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. After serving in the army with the 100th Division during the Berlin crisis he joined Klarer of Kentucky (Southern Star meat products) and eventually became Sales Manager before he decided to start his own business. He purchased a small drapery workroom and named it Spindletop Draperies, Inc. which he has owned and managed for 50 years.

He was a member of many organizations including the Sales and Marketing Executives Club, Kiwanis Club, The Louisville Boat Club and the Pendennis Club. He is an active member of the Louisville Quarterback Club, Downtown Louisville Rotary Club, and the Filson Historical Society. He served on the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed running Spindletop Draperies and his real estate investments, playing tennis, water skiing and boating, snow skiing, playing pickle ball and traveling around the world.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick M. Payne, Sr. and Ruth Herd Payne.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shirley Russell Payne, his children, Ted Payne, Ashley Payne Keown (Greg) and Tyler Payne (Michelle), his stepdaughter, Judith Seekamp (Clay), his grandchildren, Matthew Payne (Paige), Harrison Payne, Morgan Payne, Alan Thieneman, Lily Thieneman, Elizabeth Fox Payne, Teddy Payne, Bobby Hettich and Alexis Seekamp, his brother Frank Payne (Ruth) and his great grandson Hudson Payne.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 5th from 2PM to 5PM at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, service at 6PM. Burial to be at Kentucky Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2501 N. Dixie Blvd. in Radcliff, Ky on Tuesday, October 7th at 2:30 PM.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
