Ginger Croxall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home on Sep. 3, 2025.
Ginger Lea Croxall, 68, of West Hartford, CT, passed away unexpectedly at her home on August 27, 2025. Ginger will be remembered by her friends, family, church family, and former co-workers as an incredibly kind, generous, caring, diligent person who dedicated herself to helping others. She was born to Alphonsus and Ethel (Sheffield) Croxall on April 3, 1957, in Hartford, CT. She grew up in West Hartford and attended the University of Connecticut, where she earned a degree in pharmacy. She devoted herself to patient care, working for 30 years in the pharmacy department at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT. She retired in 2020 to care for her beloved brother Craig as he battled cancer. She had also cared for each of her parents and her sister Sue through their final days. Family was everything to Ginger. She traveled from Putnam to West Hartford weekly for decades to spend time with her parents, cook meals together, and enjoy heated discussions with Craig and Sue. She also doted on her nieces, nephews, and their children whenever she had an opportunity to see them.

When she wasn't tending to the family or watching UConn women's basketball, Ginger could be found working behind the scenes (often in the kitchen) at Elmwood Community Church, where she was a lifelong member. She made sure the people at South Park Inn had candy and cookies as a sweet treat after dinner when the church provided meals. Her card ministry touched many lives-encouraging words lovingly printed in a clear hand on each card. A church angel, Ginger worked to sustain "the little church with the big heart" through the years and took great pride in the congregation's 150th anniversary celebration in 2023. With other key leaders, Ginger helped orchestrate a dignified sunsetting of Elmwood Community Church after the congregation voted to close and become a legacy church. The church's closure in 2024 was a loss for her, but she found a new church home at Church of Christ, Congregational, Newington, where she was active in the Caring Ministry Team. Ginger also shared her gift of hospitality at the church's community dinners, adding thoughtful touches to the tables that made everyone feel welcome.

In addition to her cherished church family, Ginger is survived by her brother Lance Croxall and his wife Marge, of Naperville, IL, as well as nine loving nieces and nephews and their families: Lauren and Dan Miller of Newington, CT; Lacy and Mike Hlasyszyn of Cromwell, CT; Zak Croxall and Manami Morita of Saitama, Japan; Mike and Kim Foss of Columbia, CT; Jennifer and Chris Pacourek of Riverside, IL; Michelle and Brad Crose of Woodstock, GA; Christy Croxall and Jarrett Anthony of Louisville, KY; Matt and Mari Croxall of Aurora, IL; and Roxanne and Colt Roberts of Naperville, IL. She also leaves her sister-in-law Susan (Monighetti) Croxall of Newington, CT. Ginger was predeceased by her brothers Craig Croxall and Hal Croxall and sister Sue (Croxall) Riba, as well as her parents Al and Ethel Croxall.

Ginger left us too early. We mourn her passing from this life. She, whose self-giving energy kept her always in motion, always engaged in some act of care for others, is now at rest. Those who loved her could not remove her burdens. She did not disclose the weight of them to us. We trust that she has found peace.

A celebration of Ginger's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Church of Christ, Congregational, 1075 Main Street, Newington, CT. The service will be live streamed on YouTube. The link may be found at the church's website, Newingtonucc.org. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ, Congregational, 1075 Main St., Newington, CT 06111. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com

Ginger was the kindest neighbor we ever had. She would drop us off cookies and treats during the holidays and always have something nice to say while we passed eachother. She will be sorely missed by my wife and I. Rest easy Ginger, you were one of the good ones.

As a little boy living near the Croxall´s on Grove Street, Ginger was the older sister I never had. In her presence you felt appreciated, valued and always safe. All of the kids on Grove Street felt that way about Ginger. Her laughter, warmth, acceptance and always those " delicious Croxall cookies," will be fondly remembered. Rest in peace Ginger and thank you making me a better person. You will be missed. Rick Czapla
