Ginger Avery Melton was born August 7th, 1952 in Williamston, NC. Ginger was the oldest of 3 children to Benjamin Bowers and Gladys Bowers and grew up in Bethel, NC where the family were hard working farmers. Ginger left home for college in Wilson, NC at what was then Atlantic Christian College to study business and accounting before leaving college to get married to Douglas Melton and start a family together. Ginger and Douglas were married for 50 years and ended up having and raising 4 children that she stayed home with as a stay at home mom for the majority of their upbringing. During that time Ginger went back to night school and finished her degree at East Carolina University. She was a proud Pirate fan and loved her ECU basketball! From there Ginger used her degree to teach middle school students at Jacksonville Middle School and then Jacksonville Commons Middle School for over 20 years before retiring and becoming a Master Gardner.
Ginger had a passion in life for her family and raised her 4 children and helped raise her 7 grandchildren with love and devotion. For those that knew Ginger, they know she had a compassionate heart combined with a fiery spirit that never left her even to the end of her life. Ginger was a follower of Jesus and her family has a peace knowing that she is now with HIM in heaven and reunited with her husband Douglas there as well who was also a believer.
Ginger was proceeded in death by her parents Benjamin Bowers and Gladys Bowers, along with her loving husband Douglas Melton whom she was married to for 50 years before his passing. She leaves behind four children that loved her deeply, Douglas Melton, Jr., Jennifer, Stephanie Younce, and Aaron Melton. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren that she thought the world of in Aaron Turman, Haley Turman, Shyann Turman, Alyson Melton, Cole Melton, Brady Melton, and Asher Melton. She leaves behind her younger sister Pamela Willams of Wilson whom she loved and cared for as well.
There will be a Memorial Service for Ginger on Monday, February 17th at 11AM at Richlands Methodist Church.
