Ginger Marie Neal, a beacon of warmth and generosity, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on April 8, 1971, in South Bend, Indiana, to J. David Stogsdill and Mary Roberta (Horvath) Stogsdill, Ginger's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and her capacity to spread joy and kindness.
Ginger was affectionately known as a person whose presence could light up any room. Her love for her family was boundless, and she was a devoted mother to her children, Mary Katherine (Jarvis) McElvene, Hailee (Mark Phillips) Neal, Shaun David Stogsdill, and Jeffery Shawn Neal Jr. Ginger's siblings, including her sister Stacie (Ron) Navarro, shared a deep bond with her, one that was nurtured through shared memories and unconditional support.
Her role as a grandmother was one Ginger cherished deeply. She adored her grandchildren-Alexis, Jarvis Jr., Aubrie, Mark Jr., Alia, Shaun, Mason, Sebastian, and Hazel-and embraced every moment she had with them. Whether it was a quiet afternoon in the garden or a lively holiday celebration, Ginger's love for her grandchildren was evident in her every action.
Ginger's passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. She found solace in the tranquility of the outdoors, whether she was tending to her garden, basking in the sun at the beach, or setting up a tent for a camping trip in Florida. An avid fisherman, she relished the serenity of being near the water, and her culinary skills were a gift she generously shared with friends and family, especially during the holidays. Her festive decorations and sumptuous meals were the centerpiece of many cherished family traditions.
In her youth, Ginger's competitive spirit shone through as a member of her high school swim team, a period that fostered her lifelong love for swimming. Her kind and giving nature was evident even then, as she was known to be the sweetest person who, despite not always having much, would give as much as she possibly could.
Ginger's legacy is one of love, laughter, and selflessness. Her ability to make the holidays magical, to turn a simple meal into a feast of togetherness, and to give without expecting anything in return, will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a guiding light, a source of comfort, and the embodiment of the purest form of love.
Funeral services for Ginger will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, October 10, 2025 at Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, Indiana. Friends may visit with family from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
