Giovanna Zarrelli Obituary
Born December 28, 1940 in Melizzano, Italy, she was the 6th child of Francesco and Maria Luigia Insogna Mancino. Giovanna was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Lorenzo Zarrelli. She was survived by her 2 children Nick (Theresa) Zarrelli and Phyllis (Brad Karsky) Puckette; her 7 grandchildren; Nicole and Cassandra Zarrelli, Nathan and Ian Puckette, Marcus, Christina, and Frankie Zarrelli; beloved companion John McMahon; three sisters; Carmelina (the late Angelo) Mezza, Emma (Guido) Sgueglia and Francesca (Luigi) Pasquariello; And many wonderful nieces and nephews, here and in Italy.
Along with her parents she was predeceased by her loving son, Frank Zarrelli; three brothers, Domenico (Angelina) Mancino, Cesare (Concetta) Mancino, and Giuseppe Mancino, and her sister, Maria Mancino.
Giovanna came from Italy in 1960 with her husband and settled in Schenectady with friends and family. She was always a very hardworking woman with many skills. Over the years, she worked as a cook at the family restaurant, a seamstress at BellRod, an assembler at GE, and eventually retired from Sunnyview Hospital. She enjoyed working in her garden, cooking for her family and watching Family Feud. Later in life she liked jigsaw puzzles with her friends at Glendale Home. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her adoring family, being surrounded by love and laughter.
The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9am at St. Luke's Church, 1241 State St, Schenectady. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205 and/or Glendale Home Auxiliary, 59 Hetcheltown, Rd, Scotia, NY 12302.
