In Loving Memory of Gladys June Byrne May 31, 1953 – August 23, 2025

Gladys June Byrne, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on May 31, 1953, to Roy and Nadine (Herclus) Brown, Gladys spent her life rooted in love, tradition, and the joy of family.

She met her lifelong partner, David Byrne Sr., at the tender age of 12 while working at Blue Ribbon Ice Cream. Their story blossomed into a marriage that spanned 54 years, beginning on June 12, 1971, in Salem, Indiana-a union built on friendship, laughter, and unwavering commitment.

A proud graduate of Arsenal Tech High School, class of 1970, Gladys was the heart of her home. She was a master of the everyday miracles: hosting holiday dinners that became cherished memories, making sure each child and grandchild felt special with thoughtful touches like chocolate bunnies on Easter, and creating a household filled with warmth and welcome.

Gladys was also a passionate sports fan, cheering on her beloved Indiana teams, the Pacers, Fever, and Colts, with the same enthusiasm she brought to every part of her life. Her loyalty and spirit were infectious, and her presence made every game feel like a family event.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Byrne Sr.; her children, David (Cathy) Byrne Jr., Dana Graves, and Kent Byrne; her sisters, Myra Jo Tetrick and Roberta Brown; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and six sisters.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral Home, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A celebration of her life will begin at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Danny Thomas. Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 2 at 10 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

Gladys leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of quiet strength that holds families together. Her memory will live on in every holiday gathering, every cheer from the stands, and every act of kindness inspired by her example.

Aunt Gladys, when you came up behind me and surprised me in Walmart and gave me the biggest hug, right after I moved back to Indianapolis, I had no idea this crazy thing we call life would be the last time I'd see you. when I got the news of your passing, I was truly heartbroken, like so many others. And yes, I cried, also like many others. I took for granted that you would be here forever. My thoughts dwell on Uncle David, DJ, Dana and Kent and their wonderful families. I love you and till we see one another again. Give Grandma and Grandpa and Dad a hug for me.
