Gladys Irene "Sweet Pea" Hester

Gladys Houghtling Hester went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2025 at the age of 88, while surrounded by her loving family. Born to William and Bernie Estelle (Kennedy) Houghtling, she was the fifth of six siblings. She married the love of her life, Shelton Hester on September 18, 1954. Gladys was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved the simple things in life, like caring for her beloved pets, long telephone conversations with family and friends, and getting an ice cream cone from DQ every Friday with her daughter. With a heart of servitude she enjoyed working with her husband and caring for the elderly, most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, loving husband Shelton, sister Ida Mae, and brothers, Billy, Marvin, and Jack. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Noble of Manchaca, TX; son, Darrin Hester of San Antonio, TX; and daughter, Debra (Robert) Hester of San Antonio, TX. Gladys' legacy of love will continue with her 4 grandchildren: Michael (Frances), Matthew (Monica), Justin (Martha), and Kaitlyn (Miranda); 5 great-grandchildren, Liam, Hailey, Madilyn, Ryan, and Olivia. Gladys will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
