Gladys M. Bailey Normand 1925-2024. Predeceased by her husband Charles J. Normand; son Charles P (Chuck) Normand & son-in-law, Thomas Gosnell, as well as her sisters, Doris Dean, Marguerite O"Brien, Barbara Blauvelt and brother Ray Bailey. She is survived by her children, Deborah (David) Galloway, Pamela Gosnell and Thomas (Sherri) Normand. She had 5 grandchildren, Lisa, Jesse, Jill, Megan, and Erin, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Gladys is survived by one sibling, Sharon (James) Schyler.
She graduated from Penn Yan Academy at the age of 16, and attended Rochester Business Institute on scholarship. Her first job was with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Rochester, NY and then she entered the Coast Guard Reserves serving from 1945 until the end of WWII in Brooklyn, NY and Washington, DC. She returned to her job at Metropolitan in Rochester where she met her future husband. Charles and Gladys worked together in the building and Real Estate business, while raising a growing family. After Charles' death, Gladys continued the business of managing the rental units, selling property and ultimately mortgage lending through Charles J. Normand, Bldr. Inc. "Aunt Gladys and Uncle Chuck's" home was the scene of many extended family gatherings: picnics, parties and even wedding receptions. Since 1964, Gladys was a member of Locust Hill CC where she enjoyed golf, bowling, cards and where she hosted wedding showers, baby showers, engagement parties, and both daughters' wedding receptions. Gladys wintered in Florida, first with her husband, then with a friend, and finally on her own. She drove her own car to and from Florida even into her 80's. For many years, Gladys was a faithful volunteer at The Al Sigl Center, and enjoyed bridge games, both at LHCC and the Henrietta Senior Center. When her mobility became limited and she needed more assistance, she continued to enjoy visits from her friends and especially from her continually growing family.
Family and friends are invited to Gladys' Memorial Mass, Saturday, November 2, 2024, 10 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (150 Varinna Drive – CLICK FOR DIRECTIONS). A reception will follow at Locust Hill Country Club until 1:00 PM [CLICK FOR DIRECTIONS]. Interment, private.
Donations may be directed to Honor Flight or the Henrietta Senior Center in her memory.
