Gladys Mae Phillips

Gladys Mae Phillips, age 89, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Creasy Springs Health Campus.

Born on October 20, 1936, Gladys lived a life centered on faith, family, and devotion. She and her beloved husband, Robert E. Phillips, recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, a beautiful milestone reflecting a lifetime of love and commitment.

Gladys was a dedicated homemaker who devoted her entire life to raising her three sons and caring for her husband and family. Dinner was served promptly at 6:00 p.m., and as her boys fondly remembered, you were expected to be there on time. Though small in stature, Gladys was "tiny but mighty," and when she spoke, everyone listened. She had the sweetest and kindest heart and gave her love freely to all around her.

Gladys treasured her friendships and faithfully met twice a month for lunch with her classmates from the Battle Ground High School Class of 1954. In earlier years, she and Robert also enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards.

Gladys was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette IN.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert E. Phillips; her sons, Robert "Steve" (Kathleen) Phillips of Lafayette, Tracy L. (Laury) Phillips of West Lafayette, and Jack K. Phillips of Fowler; her grandchildren, Julia Phillips, Kortney (Ben) Grise, Kaitlyn (Lee) Trost, Kelsey (Andrew) Wargel, Zachary Phillips, and Alyse Phillips; and her great-grandchildren, Nolan Grise, Josie Grise, Fiona Grise, Layla Trost, Lucy Trost, Lottie Trost, Hank Wargel, and Chip Wargel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth E. Martin and Elizabeth M. (Hoffman) Martin, and her brother, Roscoe Martin.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will immediately follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, 1718 W. 350 N., West Lafayette, Indiana 47906.
