Celebration of Life
On December 12, 1941, God blessed Willie and Grace Salley with a daughter, named Gladys Lucille Salley. The third of four children, Gladys grew to become an undeniably precocious and mischievous child. Educated in the Aiken County school system, the quick-witted and charismatic, Gladys excelled in academics. During her secondary schooling she would meet and subsequently marry Mr. Henry Edward Adams, Sr. From this matrimonial union, four children were born: Henry Edward Adams Jr., Dwayne Adams, John Q. Adams, and Brian K. Adams. Later, her union with Mr. Bernard Robinson would make her a bonus mother to Bernard Terrance "Terry" Robinson, Maynard T. Robinson, Danielle Ferguson, and Wendy Reyes.
Gladys affectionately known as "Nick" was a natural conversationalist with an uncanny ability to sell anything. No matter the location, she always grew strong roots and flourished wherever she was planted. Whether a no-nonsense New York City Subway coin exchanger, a top selling agent for Tupperware, a diligent life insurance agent, or a tenacious down-home entrepreneur, Nick stood resolved to be successful. The evidence of her hard work and entrepreneurial spirit are proudly showcased in the continued success of her businesses of 48 years and counting.
In every aspect of life, Gladys enjoyed the finer things. Traveling, sight-seeing, shopping, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends were the true highlights of her life. Fun loving but straightforward, Nick did not suffer fools and would sagely inform you of that fact. Blessed with a benevolent heart, she spent countless years selflessly providing care for her parents and various family members as well as happily assisting anyone in their time of need. No stranger to trials and tribulations, Gladys faced each of life's struggles with undeniable courage and spunk. A natural fighter, death and despair were no match for her. By God's divine grace, several times in her lifetime she would boldly stare down death and emerge victorious! However, there comes a time when even the best fighters become too tired to fight.
On July 24, 2024, after a decade's long battle Mrs. Gladys "Nick" Robinson answered the call of her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her parents: Willie and Grace Salley, brother: Hammond Salley, two husbands: Henry Edward Adams Sr. and Bernard Robinson, three sons: Henry Edward (Doris) Adams Jr., John Q. Adams, and Terrance Robinson, one sister-in-law Betty Rivers, and one brother-in-law Joseph Green; nephew Vincent Rivers; and great-grandson: JaQuan Adams. Gladys was a perfect example of a life well-lived. For as she lived well, she loved well, too.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory are three sons: Brian K. Adams, Dwayne Adams, and Maynard (LaVonda) Robinson, two daughters: Dr. Danielle (David) Ferguson and Wendy Reyes, one sister: Mary Ellen Garrett, one brother: Ronnie (Dorothy) Salley; one sister-in-law Barney Green; one brother-in-law Leroy Rivers,16 grandchildren: Shonnell Adams, Dwayne Reed, Nyia Adams, Brian Adams, Maycee (Winford) Barr, Addie Barbara (Chiquitta) Graves, Torrence Robinson, Maynard T. Robinson Jr., Damian Robinson, Nadia Robinson, Mackenzie Reyes, Nina Reyes, Conrad Ferguson, Kobe Ferguson, Terryn Ferguson, David Ferguson Jr., 24 great-grandchildren, 7 great- great grandchildren, five nieces: Robin Garret, Dr. Grace Aileru, Carol (Cleveland) Holt, Charlene Rivers and Cathy Joe: five nephews: Webster Salley, Tyrone Salley, Reggie Salley, Gerrell Salley and David Green; great-nieces, great-nephews, great great nephews, special caregivers: Mrs. Beverly Williams and Ms. Karen Phillips and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.
