Dr. Gladys June Wood Strohsahl
On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Dr. June (as she is known by many) went to be with her Lord, family and friends who went before her.
Gladys June Wood was born to Choyce and Lucy Wood in Avery, TX on August 23, 1937. Preceding her were her parents, sister, Judy, and her twin brothers, James and Jerry.
Dr, June married Norman J. Strohsahl in September 1958, and they were married for 53 years until he passed away in January 2011. She is survived by her children: Cheryl, Charles and Craig, and a nephew, Tim Wood, from Paris, Texas. There are also loving relatives and devoted friends who are considered family who are her survivors.
A lifelong student of learning and sharing (teaching), she earned her B.S in biology and chemistry from ETBU in May of 1970. Then, received her Teaching Certificate in August 1976 from SFA. In August of 1979, she received her M.Ed and Midmanagement Certification from SFA. Her crowning achievement was receiving her Ed.D in Educational Technology from ETSU (today known as Texas A&M Commerce) in May of 1994.
June spent over 20 years as a Medical Technologist and over 38 years teaching at Pine Tree High School. In addition, she was also an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at Kilgore College from 1994 to 2014.
There are too many awards and recognitions to restate, but all the associates, co-teachers and especially her students have their memories and funny stories of their interactions with Dr. June. She trained many teachers and her students (many of whom later became friends) were successful in their competitions and presentations, and have gone on to successful adults because of her influence.
June was very active in her community - Mobberly Church, the Greggton Rotary Club, volunteering at the Gladewater Library, Museum / Manna House and as the front desk information person at Christus Good Shepherd. She was always mentioning everyone she ran into at the hospital!
She started the final phase of her life by breaking her leg and ending up in rehab (we kidded her about that term since the family definition was different, since Norman was a pharmacist - drug rehab?, not hardly!) She moved into Arabella of Longview in 2018 and enjoyed everything, including the fellowship of others and close proximity to friends and family, and flexibility to do what she wanted to do.
The multitude of friends, family and anyone who knew June understood her motto of “Faith, Family, Friends and Country”.
We love you and appreciate your wisdom and guidance, Cheryl and Chuck
