Gladys “Bitsy” Martha Voges
September 24, 1933 – August 18, 2025
Gladys “Bitsy” Voges has become an angel. She was born on September 24, 1933, in Stacyville, Iowa, and entered heaven on August 18, 2025, in Winter Park, Florida, at the age of 91. Bitsy passed away peacefully, surrounded by a lot of love.
Faith-driven, caring, and a loving soul, Bitsy was happiest when surrounded by her relatives and those she embraced as family. She found comfort in connecting with others, reading the Bible, enjoying music, being outdoors, attending church, and cooking. Though small in stature, she was mighty strong — full of quiet resilience and unwavering faith. Bitsy lived humbly, with grace and profound compassion. Sometimes misunderstood, she carried herself with deep feeling and conviction, and those who knew her heart loved her dearly. She was a woman of few words, but she impacted many through her genuine spirit of goodness and unwavering love. She grew up on a farm in rural Iowa, where she developed a strong work ethic, a deep sense of humility, and a lifelong dream to explore the world beyond the fields she knew. That dream led her to serve her country— becoming a First Lieutenant as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force. In 1960, she married Leonard "Len" Voges, her devoted husband and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, until his passing in 2013. She had a great giggle—part sinister, part jolly—that kept you guessing with her unique sense of humor. Her life was rooted in her faith in God and her deep love for family. She truly cherished the attention, connection, and support that came from those closest to her.
Bitsy’s heart was full of grace, always open to others, and her gentle spirit will be dearly missed. She is survived by her four children — Kim Voges, Lisa Voges, Gwyn Voges Sherman, and Lennie Voges (Julie Fender) — as well as a loving extended family who will carry her memory forward with affection and gratitude. She also mourned the recent loss of her beloved son-in-law, Stuart "Skip" Sherman, who passed away last year — a reminder of how deeply connected she was to those she loved.
Bitsy is deeply missed here on Earth, but we know she is shining her smile down from heaven with pride. We love you, Mom.
