Glenda Free Thomas, 88, of Louisville, Ky., passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at Baptist Health Louisville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Benjamin Winfield Thomas and her parents, Ira Liston Free and Gladys Christenberry Free of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Glenda attended Auburn University, where she played French horn in the marching band. She was a long-time member of Broadway Baptist church where she served as the church secretary, and a Deacon and sang in the Chancel Choir. She was a member of P.E.O, Chapter A of Louisville. Glenda loved to collect nativity sets and had too many to display or count.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Winfield Thomas (Susan) of New Albany, Ind., two daughters, Terisa Lynn Veal and Patricia LeAnne Raymer, both of Louisville, and four grandchildren who lovingly called her "Genga"; Adam Winfield Thomas, Samantha Jean Veal, Benjamin Lee Raymer and Margaret Rebecca (Maggie) Veal, all of Louisville; a sister, Joann Free Townsend of Faulkville, Ala., a brother, Ira Liston Free, Jr. (Janet) of Orlando, FL and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 31 at 11 a.m. at Broadway Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. in Broadway's Friendship Hall. Interment will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, Ky. 40207.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and aides in the palliative care unit of Baptist Louisville, along with the caring nurses of Hosparus Health of Louisville for making her final days peaceful.
