Glenda "Joan" Waldschmidt, 77, of Dowagiac, passed away on Friday afternoon, May 30, 2025, at Ascension Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac. Joan was known by names: Mother, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and even Candy.
She was born on January 29, 1948, in Moulton, AL. Joan devoted her life to the Lord and all those around her and was generous to a fault. She helped lift-up and build those around her. Joan loved getting "dolled up", especially in purple. She enjoyed traveling and loved to talk, talk, talk Her grandchildren were her absolute world and she would do anything for them. She loved to watch her television shows, especially "Murder She Wrote".
Surviving are her son – Rodney Waldschmidt; grandchildren – Daniel Crandall and Emily Waldschmidt; great-grandchildren – Abigail, Avery, Ryker and Paisley Crandall; siblings – Reno (Linda) Morgan, Avon (Richard) King, Patricia Wallace and Diane (Ali) Elwaer; close friend and sister-in-law – Charlene Waldschmidt; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her daughter – Renee Crandall; parents – Odes and Lorene (Morgan) Wallace; sister – Jean Hall; and former spouse – Larry Waldschmidt.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center St, Dowagiac. Pastor Stacey Wilder of Calvary Bible Church will officiate. Interment will follow in South Wayne Cemetery. Friends may visit with Joan's family from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, June 3 at the funeral home. To share a memory or message of condolence, please visit Joan's personalized page at www.clarkch.com.
