June Ellen (Garrison) Waldschmidt passed away on August 14. June was born June 14th, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Russell and Olga (Koeller) Garrison, moving to Ellis, Kansas as a young girl.

She graduated from Ellis High School in 1956 and began her education at Fort Hays College and worked as a

telephone operator. She met the love of her life Jacob (Jack) Waldschmidt and they married on January 25, 1958. After a brief stint in Denver, Colorado, they moved to Derby, KS where they raised their 4 children.

June was an active Girl and Boy Scout leader and loved her various activities from crafts, sewing, bowling league and square dancing. In 1978, June returned to college at Wichita State University, graduating with a teaching degree and taught kindergarten in Derby at Pleasantview Elementary for over 20 years. A trip to Walmart in Derby would always take longer than anticipated as June loved running into past students and was most tickled when she taught the children of past students.

As her birth date (Flag Day) dictated, June was a lifelong fan and collector of all things with red, white, and blue and flags.

June was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Glenn Garrison, her beloved husband Jack and her son Jeffery Waldschmidt. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel (Kent) Coleman, Vickie (Arun) Gore, and son Gary (Dianne) Waldschmidt, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

If June touched your life, please join us in remembering her at a memorial/visitation at Smith Family Mortuary in Derby on Wednesday, August 27 at 1:00 p.m.

June will be buried next to her husband Jack in Attica, KS in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Derby Senior Center: 611 Mulberry St. Derby, KS 67037.
