Dr. Glenn Stanger Madara M.D., 70, passed away on March 28, 2025, in Camden-Wyoming, Delaware. Born on November 19, 1954, in Salem, New Jersey, Glenn lived a good life spreading love and wit wherever he went.
Glenn dedicated his life to serving others as a successful anesthesiologist with over 40 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from the Jefferson Medical School at Thomas Jefferson University in 1983 and completed his residency at the University of Florida's Shands Hospital. He owned and operated Elmer Anesthesia and Pain Management LLC while serving as the chairman of the anesthesia department until he began his cardiac fellowship at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He practiced as a staff anesthesiologist at Lancaster Regional hospital in Lancaster, PA until 2007 when he began practicing in Delaware. He spent the remainder of his medical career at Bayhealth Hospital – Sussex and Kent Campus where he was a practicing partner with Bayhealth Anesthesia Group. He was generous to those less fortunate, donating his time and energy to volunteering on a medical mission with his colleagues and son, Devon, in Nicaragua. Glenn had an unmistakable passion for his work and his coworkers held a special place in his heart.
Beyond his medical expertise, Glenn found joy in many passions. He was a talented musician who reverberated tunes through his home every chance he had, especially at every family Christmas. His focuses included the guitar, trumpet, harmonica, piano, and his keyboard. He also enjoyed gigs with his bandmates in his band "The Reunion", boat rides or fishing trips on the "Mary Stanger," sporting his motorcycle around town, and other various projects. Glenn had a knack for telling jokes and stories that could bring laughter to any gathering, often found regaling a crowd with stories of his childhood or anything else he knew would give them a laugh. His humor, warmth, and nicknames will leave a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Glenn is survived by his beloved wife, LeNay Madara; his five children, Monica Becker (Matt), Eric Boice (Stephanie), Devon Madara, Destiny Boothroyd (Jason), and Braxton Madara; his grandchildren, Adalyn Becker, Joseph Becker, and Emily Boice; his siblings Joyce Bambrick (Jim) and Jay Madara (Ann); He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Madara M.D. and Ruth Madara as well as his sister Marilyn Madara Tilton (Gary).
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 9AM to 12PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel South (1145 E Lebanon Road, Dover, DE 19901). Funeral services will start at 12PM. A Celebration of Life meal for friends and family will follow afterward.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation you are comfortable with to Doctors Without Borders. This charity provides medical humanitarian aid to people impacted by conflict, natural disasters, epidemics and more to over 70 countries.
Glenn's memory will live on through the love he shared with his family and the joy he brought to those around him.

I worked with Dr. Madara from the time he joined Kent General until I retired in 2011. At that time I served as the Chief CRNA. He was indeed a very special person and was not your typical anesthesiologist. So intelligent, kind, respectful and so easy to work with. It was indeed a pleasure to know him and an honor to work with him. RIP and thank you for playing Elvis for me. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

I was lucky enough to have been in Glenn's company at several gatherings at Dr. Joe and Sharon Henry's home. Glenn was just as the wonderful obituary reads. He was funny, friendly, smart, witty, full of life and it was a pleasure to be in both Glenn's and LeNay's company. I extend my deepest condolences for the loss of this generous, kind, down to earth and beautiful soul.

Knowing Doctor Madara was in charge of the day's OR Schedule at Elmer always made the day more pleasant. His compassion and understanding of our patients' needs got them through their procedures with much less anxiety. His ready smile and helping hand will long be remembered. We know that his colleagues will miss his knowledge and dedication to the medical profession. Sympathy to all who knew him and shared his zest for life, especially his family who gave him such joy.
