Glenn E. Simpson, age 83, of Red Cloud, Nebraska died Thursday, September 15, 2011 in Red Cloud. Funeral services were held Monday, 10:30 a.m., September 19, 2011 at the Congregational Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Marshall Faulkenberry officiating. Interment with military graveside honors was at the Red Cloud Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family. The son of Dorothy M. (Meredith) and Carl L. Simpson, he was born February 1, 1928 at Guide Rock, Nebraska. He graduated from the Guide Rock High School with the class of 1946. Following the completion of his formal education, Glenn began working with the family business as a mason with Simpson Plastering and Cement. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country from December of 1950 until his discharge in 1954. He was united in marriage with LaVaughn Noble on December 22, 1951 at Red Cloud. Glenn continued to work as a mason and farmed southwest of Red Cloud until 1976, when he purchased the Guide Rock Lumber Yard. He retired in 1990. He was a member of the Red Cloud American Legion Post 238 and the Guide Rock Lions Club, In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Glenn always maintained an interest in the farm, and the wildlife in the Republican river valley and enjoyed driving the country roads. Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant daughter, Shauna Lea. Surviving are his wife, LaVaughn Simpson of Red Cloud; a son, Greg Simpson of Red Cloud; a daughter Sheri Ord and husband Kevin of McCook, Nebraska; and three grandchildren, Gina Ord of Fairfax, Virginia, Sam Ord of Pullman, Washington, and Lindsey Ord of Omaha, Nebraska, other relatives and friends.
