Gloria Dick Obituary
After growing up on Elmira, NY's southside during the depression and World War II, Gloria attended Alfred State where she met her husband and graduated with a degree in Floriculture. Together they built and established a greenhouse business in Big Flats for 25 years.
She had a lifelong interest in plants, animals, and nature itself. She and her husband enjoyed hiking, camping, and collecting rocks and minerals, fossils and Native American artifacts. They traveled extensively in the Northeast and Canada, especially after retirement.
Reading and the pursuit of knowledge was an important part of Gloria's life.
She belonged to several mineral clubs in Canada, New York, and Virginia; also SRAC in Waverly, and the Big Flats Historical Society.
Gloria is survived by her son, David Dick of Nashua, NH; daughter, April (Ronald) Wilson of Big Flats; grandchildren, Melissa Wilson of Elmira and Matthew (Tiffany) Wilson; great-granddaughters, Clara and Olivia Wilson; and special friends, Janet and Inga.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 2-3pm at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning, NY, with a Memorial Service to follow at 3pm with Rev. Dr. Patricia Schick officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Chemung County Humane Society, 2435 NY-352, Elmira, NY 14903, or online at https://www.chemungspca.org/.
