Gloria Alma Greer Elledge, 92, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Born in Duncan, she was the daughter of the late Frank White and Carrie Jessie Smith Greer and the beloved wife of the late Marvin Eugene Elledge, Sr, who was the love of her life for sixty-two years and her high school sweetheart. Gloria graduated from Duncan High School and Spartanburg Methodist College. She was a social worker for Spartanburg County, where she also served as Secretary and Editor of Spartanburg Weekly, Secretary of DR Hill Annex, Director of Piedmont Community Action, and the Census Bureau for ten years. She was a life-long member of Duncan First Baptist Church, where she was a teacher in the Early Child Development Center. Gloria had a great love for children, working long hours during the Christmas season to be sure every child had something for Christmas and food on the table.
Survivors include her four children, Gloria Weaver, Susan Clark, Marvin Elledge, Jr. and Kathy Ann Elledge, ; a brother, Richard Greer; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Elledge; eleven grandchildren, Marvin Elledge, III, Jennifer Workman, Scott Weaver, Jay Weaver, Dusty Clark, BJ Clark, Julie Clark Jeffcoat, Brittani Elledge, Kayla Mulvaney, Lynn Pittman and Susan Clements; and several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, John Barry Elledge; a great-grandson, Andrew Weaver; two sisters, Wilma Greer Odom and Anne Pittman; and two brothers, James Francis Greer and Benjamin Greer.
A celebration of Life will be held at 3PM on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Stribling Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Shetley and Pastor Mitch Crow officiating. The family will receive friends from 2PM until 3PM prior to the service.
