Gloria Normile Obituary

Normile, Gloria S.
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Gloria Silvia Normile, 89, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully, on January 30, 2026, at Coral Landing Assisted Living.
Gloria was born in Troy, N.Y., the daughter of Dewey M. And Victoria Gorski DelSignore Sr. Gloria grew up in Watervliet, N.Y. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Thomas Normile. Together they raised their family in Watervliet, where they built a life centered on hard work, community, and family.
For many years, Gloria worked at the Watervliet Arsenal, and later served as a secretary for New York Governor Mario Cuomo, a role she took great pride in. She was also an active member of the Schuyler Heights Auxiliary Fire Department in Watervliet, reflecting her strong commitment to service and community.
After the passing of her husband in 1998, Gloria retired to St. Augustine, where she embraced life fully. Throughout her life she enjoyed bowling, skiing, spending time at the beach and any time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed travels and new adventures, especially with her sisters. Known for her fearless spirit, Gloria once drove across the country solo, a testament to her adventurous and bold nature.
Above all, Gloria cherished her family. She was loving, generous, and deeply devoted and always had time for those she cared about. A true animal lover, she held a special place in her heart for her beloved grand puppy, Porter.
Gloria will be remembered for her strength, warmth, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, independence, and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

My heartfelt condolences to Gloria´s family. I worked with Gloria at OGS in the early 1990´s. She was very kind, professional, efficient, and one of the most helpful and conscientious people I have ever worked with. It was a pleasure to know her.

Gloria was a close friend of my mother, Joyce McDonald. They met in 1961 when my mother moved to 8th Avenue in Watervliet. Over the next decade, they spent many afternoons playing cards and Scrabble whenever time allowed. Along with Jean Hughes, they were active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Schuyler Heights Fire Department, volunteering at parties—and especially enjoying the clean-up the next day when family members joined in. My mother always appreciated Gloria’s kindness and lively personality, and spoke of her fondly.
