Gloria Schmidt

Gloria Schmidt, age 93 of Watkins, passed away at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins on Monday, August 12, 2024. A funeral service for Gloria will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Watkins on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11:00AM. Visitation will be held one hour prior.  A luncheon will follow the funeral service at which time there will be a time for sharing special memories and stories about Gloria. Interment will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery following the service,

Gloria Schmidt was born May 28th, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN to John and Frances Porter. Gloria was a homemaker but also worked for nearly 20 years as a photo finisher at Brown Photo/Black’s Photography. She retired to Watkins, MN with her husband in 1994 and proudly joined the American Legion EVW Post #381, Watkins Lioness and the CCW of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She particularly enjoyed her time of mentorship with the Impact Group of the Eden Valley Schools. She truly enjoyed volunteering within her community.

Gloria appreciated spending time with her friends in Watkins and at Island View Resort in Richmond where she and her husband became seasonal residents for nearly 30 summers. She could often be found chatting with her friends at the local hair salon or relaxing on her porch at the lake with a book in her hand and dog cuddled up by her feet as friends and family stopped in to say hi. She felt happiest when simply spending time with those she loved.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Roland Schmidt, son Larry Borchardt, best friend in Watkins Debbie Landwehr, and faithful friend Cookie. She is survived by children Gary Borchardt (Diana), Fran Rojas (Mark), Ken Borchardt (Cynthia), Linda Lamb (Dave), Wayne Schmidt (Deb), Rodrick Schmidt (Stacy); stepchildren Randy Schmidt (Sue), Roger Schmidt, Carl Schmidt; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren.
