Gordon Dean Atterton, 71, North Port, FL, formerly of Minot, ND, passed away June 28, 2022, in his home.
Gordon Dean Atterton was born on December 29 1950, to Bobbie and Raymond Atterton in Whitwell, TN. Gordon grew up in Tennessee, graduating from Rhea Central High School in Dayton in 1969.
His 1970 enlistment in the Air Force brought him to Minot, ND where he met and married Penny Bailey on August 1, 1971. Penny and Gordon had two children, Chad and Kellie, and Gordon gained a life-long best friend in Penny's father, Ralph Bailey. Penny and Gordon lived in Minot and were members of Christ Lutheran Church before retiring to Florida in 2013. Gordon worked for Dean Foods following his honorable military discharge in 1974 until he retired in 2013.
Gordon was a southern charmer with a twinkle in his eyes and a mischievous sprit. He had a kind heart and generous nature.
Gordon was a skilled handyman and always willing to help others. Family and friends were an important part of his life. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Gordon is survived by his wife Penny, son Chad Atterton (Lea Atterton), daughter Kellie Stowe, grandchildren Brooks and
Bennett Stowe, Hayle and Camryn Guy, sisters Sandy Johnson (Joey) and Phyllis Wilson, one nephew and numerous nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Tedder, step-father, Randal Tedder, and father, Raymond Atterton.
Graveside Service with Military Honors will take place Monday, October 3, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. Celebration of Life to follow from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Prairie Sky Breads, Minot, ND.
