Gordon K. Chu passed away suddenly on September 30, 2024 at Johns Hopkins Hospital NCCU in Baltimore, MD. Gordon was 62 years old and lived in Howard County, MD for the past 27 years.
Gordon was born on February 9, 1962 in Taipei, Taiwan to Walter and Susana Chu. He lived in Taipei for 10 years before immigrating to the US with his family in 1972. Gordon grew up in Northern VA with his father, mother, and younger sister Cordelia. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Chemistry. Gordon worked in the environmental testing field in the early years of his career where he met his wife, Sharon Costigan, in the New England area. They married in 1995 and welcomed two wonderful children Justin and Morganne into their lives. Gordon transitioned into the analytical equipment manufacturing field and government contract work in the later years of his career.
Gordon was an avid outdoorsman and could often be found fishing, boating, hunting, or tinkering with any gear needed for those sports. He shared this love of the outdoors with his wife and children quite often. With his children, Gordon shared a passion for Kung Fu and raised them in a local Martial Arts School that became an extended family over the years. He was the life of every party, wanting to celebrate and cheer the accomplishments of his loved ones whether they be large or small. He was best known for his annual Fall Pig Roasts hosted in the backyard of the family home. Gordon's laughter filled the room and his smiles were easily shared with others. Gordon was a world traveler for both business and many family reunions abroad with his wife, children, and very close extended family.
Gordon is survived by his mother Susana Ming Yse (Yoh) Chu, wife Sharon Costigan, son Justin Chu, daughter Morganne Chu, daughter-in-law Anna Couchenour, future son-in-law Conrad Meyland, sister Cordelia Chu Mason, French Bulldog Buck, and many extended family members and friends. His late father, Walter Chih-Lin Chu passed in 2013.
A Celebration of Life in Gordon's honor will be announced to all family and friends at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordon's name can be made to the United Service Organization (USO, https://secure.uso.org/?sc=WEBDONATE&show_amount=true) or World Wildlife Fund (WorldWildlifeDonation)
