Gordon L. Disselkoen, age 94, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, at The Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. He was born August 1, 1928, to Jacob and Cora (Hoekman) Disselkoen, in Harrison, South Dakota.
Gordon graduated from Zeeland High School, then went to Hope College before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served during the Korean War. After the service, he went on to Ferris State University, where he graduated with a Master's Degree in Pharmacy.
On May 4, 1956, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Witteveen and they were able to spend 66 wonderful years together. He was a pharmaceutical salesman for Pfizer and would retire from there after 35 years.
Gordon was a true handyman and could fix pretty much anything. Although, his version of fixing sometimes meant creatively rigging things up to work. He enjoyed being outside planting flowers, going fishing or playing golf. He was also a gifted craftsman and would carve animals out of wood.
Gordon will be deeply missed by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Sandy (Steve) Khodl and Shelly (Wayne) Jones; grandchildren, Chad (Sarah) Khodl, Ryan (Nicole) Khodl, Mackenzie (Joe) Hall, Alex (Chelsea) Howe, Max (Jessica) Jones, Sam (Lindsey) Jones and Stevie (Scott) Kovanda; great-grandchildren, Harvey, Adah, Levi, Cora, Ella, Eden, Eva, Wes, Harlan, Liam and Lily; brother, Arnold (Norma) Disselkoen; and sister-in-law, Hazel (Glenn) Kuypers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sue Marshall; sister, Delia Disselkoen; and brothers, Ted and Orville Disselkoen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2023, at First Reformed Church, 301 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417, with Pastor John Kenny officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Love In Action, The Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice.
