Gordon Truman Kassenborg, 83, passed away on March 21, 2023, at St Catherine's South in Fargo, where he received excellent care assisted by Ethos Hospice for the past five months.
Gordon was born on December 2, 1939, in Fargo, ND, to parents Gilbert and Esther (Grinde) Kassenborg. He grew up on their family farm east of Kragnes, MN, and went to grade school at Riverside country school. Gordon attended The State Teachers College High School and graduated in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Madsen, on April 3, 1958. They lived in Moorhead while Gordon attended Moorhead State College. He graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in music education. During high school and college he served in the Army and Air National Guard.
Gordon farmed with his parents and took over the farm when his father retired. Over the years he adopted new practices and technology to grow a successful farming business. He also operated a trucking business for over 40 years delivering his crops to Duluth and Minneapolis, transporting a mobile MRI unit between regional hospitals, and delivering specialty sand to golf courses and landscaping products to garden centers.
Gordon served on the Board of Directors of the Red River Valley Sugar Beet Association at the time American Crystal Sugar became a co-op. He was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church serving many different roles throughout the years. He enjoyed many years singing with the barbershop chorus in Fargo. He also earned his private pilot's license and was the president of a local flying club. He enjoyed flying around Minnesota and even as far as Boston. Gordon was a proud and loving father who passed on his love of farming and music to his children.
He is survived by his wife Susan and children Aron (Laura VonBank), Holly (Rob Lind) and granddaughter Ayla Kassenborg.
