Gordon Leon Marx, age 71, died Friday, June 23, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was surrounded by his family as he passed away following a long battle with heart disease and its complications in recent years. He was born February 9, 1952 in Los Angeles, California to Leon Hilton and Nyda Dell Callaway Marx. On June 19, 1982, he married Tamara Lynn Broumbach in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had three children and were later divorced.
Gordon grew up in Azusa, California. He served as an LDS Missionary in Austria before attending BYU for a short time. He lived in Europe for a brief time, playing basketball, skiing and traveling. He moved back to Azusa to work in the family Fire Protection business. Later, he moved to Las Vegas where he worked at American Fire and Safety with his brothers. Following his dad's retirement, he and his younger brother, Steve, started Ace Fire Systems where they both worked until their retirement in recent years.
Gordon was known for his sense of humor, his teasing and sarcasm, and for his love of family. He had an "impressive" collection of recycled plastic bottles, showing his dedicated frugality. He loved backpacking, playing basketball and baseball, skiing and being on the lake with his family. He will be missed.
Survivors include one son and two daughters: Litany (Daniel) Rosequist; Ryan (Jacquelynn); Karah (Karsten) Smith; twelve grandchildren; his mother, Nyda Dell Marx, all of Las Vegas; five brothers and one sister: Verona Castaneda; Steve (Shauna); Glen (Laura); Lee (Dana); Randy (Kelly); Ray (Traci) and one sister in law, Kimberly. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon and brother, Ron.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dorrell Stake Center, 6051 Dorrell Street, Las Vegas, NV. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Palm Northwest Cemetery, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas.
