Gordon Elbert Melancon, 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on August 29, 1940, in Orange, Texas to parents Joseph Earl Melancon and Roberta Elizabeth Keigley.
Gordon proudly served in the Army and held the rank of E-4 during his military service.
Described as a man of unwavering integrity and strong work ethic, Gordon will be remembered for his dedication in his community. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in and could often be found in the fields bailing hay and tending to cattle. Gordon's commitment to hard work extended to all aspects of his life, from welding to ranching.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Gordon had a passion for farming and welding. He took immense pride in his work, striving for perfection in everything he did, right down to the smallest detail. Those who knew him well admired his sharp attire and his insistence on doing things the right way, whether it was a complex welding project or simply washing the dishes.
A family man through and through, Gordon made sure his loved ones were taken care of and instilled important values in them. He ensured his family attended church every Sunday and led by example, always saying grace at supper. Gordon was known for his caring and loving nature, his willingness to stand up for others, and his role as a great teacher of life lessons.
Gordon Melancon is survived by his children: Tully Melancon and wife Leeann, Gordon Melancon and wife Kimberly, Boyd Melancon and wife Donna, Jeremy Dane Melancon, Benjie Carrell and husband Joe, Wana Vestal and husband Bobby, and Shaon Musselwhite and husband Melvin Walters. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Melancon, and a whole pasture full of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Earl Melancon and Roberta Elizabeth Keigley, his son Ryan Shannon Melancon, and his late wife Millie Marie Monse.
Services to honor and remember Gordon Melancon will be held at Faith & Family Funeral Services in Batson, Texas. A visitation will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM, officiated by Hillory Broussard. Interment to follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson.
In his memory, Gordon's legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication to family and community will endure. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
