Gordon Thornsberry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Humphrey Funeral Services, Inc. on Feb. 20, 2026.
Gordon Elmo Thornsberry, a spirited entrepreneur and adventurer who lived life on his own terms, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2026, in Russellville, Arkansas.

Born on March 23, 1942, Gordon was a man of action and resilience. At 17, he saw a person jump out of a plane, and it sparked a life-long love for parachuting. In April 1962, he joined the US Army with the intent to be in the Airborne Unit and proudly served three years until 1965. During his time in the Army, he competed on the Rifle Team and placed 3rd at a NATO competition. In 1963, he survived a plane crash that had ditched in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and loved recounting the story.

An entrepreneur at heart, he owned and operated several businesses including T-Berry's Mobile Home Sales, T-Berry's EZ Pay Insurance, and Tax Centers of America. His optimism and drive for innovation were at the core of his success. Gordon served his community as a Justice of the Peace, and proud founding member of the infamous running club - Jack's Pack.

Gordon's zest for life extended to his personal relationships as well. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn Sue Thornsberry, his daughter, Tonia (Gerald) Ouzts, and son, Tommy (Rabab) Thornsberry. He was a proud grandfather to Josie Ouzts, Jackson, Maggie, and Grace Thornsberry. He also leaves behind his brother William Thornsberry, sister Joy (Joe) Pabian, sister-in-laws Kay (Charles) Wortham, and Dora Gene Starling, as well as bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmo I. and Dexter L. McConnell Thornsberry, a son, Richard Allen Thornsberry, a sister-in-law, Delores Thornsberry, a brother-in-law, Don Starling and in-law's Hillard "Pat" and Ovene Haller Starling.

A visitation for Gordon will be held at The Arbors Independent Living Community, 697 Bradley Cove Road, Russellville, Arkansas, 72802, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm CST. Burial will be at a later date.

As we celebrate the life of Gordon Elmo Thornsberry, we encourage you to share your memories and upload photos to his memorial page. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of pioneering spirit will continue to inspire.
