New Iberia, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gracious Lady Sandra Marie Cormier, the former Sandra Broussard at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Saint Edward Roman Church (175 Ambassador West Lemelle Drive).
Fr. Donald Bernard will be the Celebrant.
Entombment will be held in the Mausoleum of Saint Edward Catholic Church Cemetery (Dale Street) in
New Iberia, LA following the Mass. The visitation will be held at Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, January 24, 2026, beginning at 7:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 A.M.
Sandra Marie Broussard Cormier, known as "Marie" by most, age 85, was born in
Lafayette, LA on April 5, 1940, to the late Helen Mae Joseph Broussard and Leonard Broussard, Jr. She was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was married to Harvey James Cormier, Sr. for 69 years and to this union seven children were born. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, traveling, and sharing time with her family and friends.
Being a woman of faith, prayer, and sacrifice, "Marie" held her family close to her heart; meanwhile, she encouraged them to love each other, spend time together and create memories, and remain faithful to God. Her fondness for cooking and dancing will be remembered by everyone; her Legacy of Values, Standards and Wisdom will be cherished forever by all who knew her.
"Marie" was a long-time member of Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a member of Knights of Peter Claver Our Lady of Victory Court #63 and Saint Catherine of Siena Chapter #16. She was a member of the Dazzlin' Sugar Mommas Red Hat Society, Inc. of New Iberia; and the Classy Ladies Pokeno Club of New Iberia.
She was a graduate of Jonas Henderson High School and earned a Certification in Dietary Science. She devoted more than 40 years of dedicated service to Consolata Home in
New Iberia, Louisiana, where she served as cafeteria manager. In this role, she took great pride in providing nutritious and delicious meals to the residents before retiring after a long and faithful career.
She leaves to cherish her memory, seven (7) awesome children-Harvey Cormier, Jr. (Mary Ann); Keith Edward Cormier (Debra); Karen Ann C. Lightfoot (David, Sr.); David Allen Cormier (Toni*deceased); Patrice Lynette C. McGruder (Eugene); Estella Marie C. Mangram (Dr. Alicia Mangram); and Kevin Peter Cormier (Karen). Also, her precious 14 Grandchildren; 26 beautiful Great - Grandchildren; and two (2) Great-Great Grandchildren who reside in New Iberia, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Diego, Dallas, Austin, and Germany. In addition, cherishing her memory are her Siblings Gerald Broussard of Aurora, CO; Oscar Broussard of Baytown, TX; Barry "Tracey" Broussard (Carol) of Alabama; and Stacy Jackson (Danny) of Chicago, IL; In Laws-Marion Broussard, Bobbie Broussard, Annette Salaam, Mary Irma C. Thomas, Otto Vital, Dr. Nicholas Cormier, Jr. (Patricia), and Tyrone Paul Cormier (Patricia); one Godchild Brandy Vital Harris (Andrew) and a host of nieces, nephews relatives, friends and a Special niece-Bridgett Broussard from Aurora, CO who called her aunt Marie everyday.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leonard Broussard, Sr. and Victoria Day Broussard; siblings-Edwin Broussard, Donald Broussard, and Larry Broussard, and one sister, Carol Jean Broussard Vital; in laws-Barbara Ann Cormier, Lillie Cormier Thompson, Phillip Cormier/Abdulhakeem Salaam, Henry Thompson; and Uncles, Aunties, Nieces, Nephews, Relatives, and Friends.
Active pallbearers will be Jatoya Cormier, David Lightfoot, Jr., Devin Cormier, Otto Bryan Vital, Joseph Jones, and Donald Broussard, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jacory Ledet, Eashan Jones, Kishan Jones, Jayden Cormier, Jagger Cormier, Joshua Cormier, Dillan Cormier, Mykah Mangram, Tylan Jackson, Luca Cormier, Jerome Cormier, Andras Cormier, Gerald Broussard, Oscar Broussard, Tracy Broussard, David Lightfoot, Sr., Otto Vital, Tyrone Cormier, Albert Jones, Dr. Nicholas Cormier, Danny Jackson, Darren Simon, Ollie Toby, and Red Hatters New Iberia Chapter
