On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, we said goodbye to our father, grandfather and great grandfather, Graham George Stubbs.
Graham was born August 3, 1938, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England to George Albert and Florence Emily (Bailey) Stubbs. He had one sister, Barbara Stubbs, who preceded him in death.
Graham has quite a life story and one he loved to tell. He lived in England during World War II and told stories of his experiences. From watching bombs drop over the factories in his hometown of Sheffield, to watching German planes become entangled in barrage balloons and falling to the ground. Stories of running to the bomb shelter for protection and feeling the sensation of relief when finding out that his father who had been buried under the rubble of a German bombed factory for days would return home safely.
Shortly before the war ended, Graham's sister Barbara died at the age of 10 from a childhood sickness and it was at this time that his father decided he wanted to bring his family to America so that their family could be sealed for time and all eternity in the L.D.S. Salt Lake Temple.
Once approved to come to America, Graham, his mother and father boarded the MS Batory and arrived on Ellis Island in July of 1948 and four years later became United States Citizens.
Graham grew up in Salt Lake City and attended West High School. He then decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he was called to return to his home country of England. He travelled back to his homeland aboard the Queen Mary and served a successful mission.
When he arrived back home, he started employment at ZCMI and met his eternal companion, Marlene Vogt. Winning her over was no easy task as she was engaged to someone else. With that swagger and smile that Graham had, he was able to win her over and on March 24, 1961, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple.
They built a small home in Bountiful and raised two children, Scott Graham Stubbs and Tracy Lynn (Stubbs) Harris. They lived in that small home until he was able to design and construct their dream home and what would become their final home situated just above Rocket Park in Bountiful Utah. They spent 34 years in that house surrounded by neighbors they loved and cherished.
Graham was an entrepreneur, always looking for ways to earn extra money. He took trade classes while working for Bennett Paint and Glass in Salt Lake and learned how to draft. He took that trade and would design homes for people in the evening after working long hours at his primary job. He called this business Design Loft. After being laid off from his primary job, he decided to take the leap and make home design his full-time endeavor. The business did so well that Graham asked his son, Scott, to work alongside him and together they grew a very successful business. Scott has and will continue to carry that torch forward for Graham.
Graham has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and Graham and Marlene loved them. They spent a lot of time having gatherings and sleep overs with them, enjoying root beer floats, playing games and more. He would spend time with all the boys watching war movies or action movies while the girls were upstairs with grandma. Graham and Marlene took multiple Disneyland trips with their children and grandchildren, and many fond memories were made.
Graham spent his final days at Whisper Cove Assisted Living in Kaysville. We had the opportunity to see and hear what an impact he had on those who worked there. He always had a bag of candy or a box of donuts in his room that he offered to the staff that visited and cared for him. He wanted to show them how much he appreciated all their help. You could see the sadness in their eyes when they heard that the man down the hall that watched westerns loudly and offer candy to them as a thanks was going to leave them far too soon. To those who helped him while at Whisper Cove, thank you. You are angels and were a bright spot for those of us who were by his side when he passed away.
Graham is preceded in death by George Alfred Stubbs (dad), Florence Emily (Bailey) Stubbs (mom), Barbara Stubbs (sister), and Marlene Louise (Vogt) Stubbs (wife).
Graham is survived by Scott Graham Stubbs (son), Evette Stubbs (Daughter in Law), Tracy Lynn (Stubbs) Harris (daughter), Dale R. Harris (Son in Law), seven grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
