Granville Earl Proffitt Jr., 82 of Winchester, VA, died Sunday, March 30, 2025 at his home.
He was born October 26,1942 in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of Granville Earl Proffitt Sr. and Jacqueline Bowen Proffitt. He served in the National Guard. He was a lifelong member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. He attended Macedonia since early childhood. He was an active member throughout his life, serving on multiple committees. He was instrumental in the process of the addition of the new sanctuary. Earl was the caretaker of Macedonia Cemetery for 40 plus years. He had a heartfelt dedication to his church.
Earl married Barbara Rowland, November 22,1991 at Macedonia United Methodist Church.
He retired from his business, Lindsay Water Conditioning, EchoWater on Valley Avenue in Winchester. After retiring he continued to be active in his church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife Barbara R. Proffitt, children, Randolph Alan Proffitt and wife Leslie Proffitt of Boyce, VA, Pamela Lynn Proffitt and husband Victor Chacon of Winchester, a brother, James L. Proffitt, seven grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Earl is preceded in death by his son, Granville Earl Proffit lll, a brother Dennis Alan Proffitt and parents Jacqueline Bowen Proffitt and Granville Earl "Tip" Proffitt Sr.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 6th at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester, from 2:00 pm -4:00 pm.
The funeral will be held Monday, April 7th at Macedonia United Methodist Church (old Chapel) at 11:00 am with the Rev. Keith Ritchie officiating and Pastor Jason Duley assisting.
The burial will follow at Macedonia Memorial Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Randolph Proffitt, Cameron Baker, Carson Baker, Gregory McClung, Roger Strosnider and John Sargent.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Blue Ridge Hospice.
