Greg S. Cornwell

Gregory Scott Cornwell, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 1, 2024, at home in Des Moines. A gathering for friends and family will be held at Iles Westover Chapel, later this spring, when the weather is warmer. The family would like for those with motorcycles to please plan to ride theirs to the gathering in honor of Greg's passion for riding.
Greg was born January 28, 1959, in Des Moines, IA, to Merle "Gene" and Harriet (Towne) Cornwell. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and worked as a Sheet Metal Worker for Local Union 45 for over 30 years.
Greg raced motocross for many years and continued to ride as much and as often as he could. He made friends easily with his sense of humor and gift of conversation.
Greg enjoyed attending motorcycle bike nights, listening to music, playing his harmonica, NASCAR, and trips to Colorado with his dad, brothers, uncles and cousins.
Greg is survived by his children Tyson Cornwell, Sheena Cornwell and Sam Cornwell; a grandson, Mason; his siblings, Steve (Sandy) Cornwell, Pam Cornwell and Kevin (Tami) Cornwell; nieces, McKinley Cornwell, Amanda Lewis and RaGina Cahail as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, their families and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Harriet Cornwell.
