Gregory Lamont Anderson, affectionately known as "Big G," was born on October 26, 1954, the sixth of eleven children to George and Dorothy Anderson, who preceded him in death. On November 15, 2025, Greg departed this life after a long and courageous battle with illness.
Greg truly lived up to his nickname-bigger than life in every way. His style was unmatched, whether in hats, suits, athletic wear, or accessories. A gifted hand dancer, he lit up the dance floor with his moves, always bringing joy and energy wherever he went. Known as the life of the party, Greg had a gift for making people laugh with his sayings, antics, and unforgettable presence.
Children were naturally drawn to him, especially his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He loved sharing stories of his adventures and took pride in bringing smiles and laughter to their faces. A devoted sports fan, Greg wore his Pittsburgh Steelers colors proudly and enjoyed hosting game-day gatherings with family and friends. He also had a green thumb, tending to his plants and gardens with care, and found joy in growing vegetables over the years. Music was another passion, with Michael Jackson holding a special place in his heart-Greg often proclaimed himself the King of Pop's biggest fan.
Greg attended Westinghouse High School and was baptized at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. He had a remarkable talent for fixing things and was always eager to help others, often connecting family and friends with items they needed-from furniture to appliances. His career path reflected his hardworking spirit: he worked for Brandywine Realty in Homewood during the 1980s, spent time in Philadelphia, and later joined Home Depot, eventually transferring to Maryland. While there, he launched his own contracting business, specializing in home repairs such as roofing, fencing, painting, and deck restoration. Greg later worked at Sears in the tools and appliances department until his retirement, after which he returned to Pittsburgh in 2018.
At an early age, Greg married Toni Davis, and from that union came two children: Greg Anderson Jr., who preceded him in death, and Helena Anderson (Sheen). He is also preceded in death by four siblings: Curtis, Constance, Benjamin and Kenneth.
Greg leaves to cherish his memory:
His daughter, Helena Anderson; granddaughters, Mariah Anderson and Chaning Shaheed; and great-grandson, Yuri Anderson (all of Los Angeles, CA); His daughter, Tenisha Oliver (Los Angeles, CA); grandchildren, Marley and Phoeni; Sisters: Denise Anderson Gantt (Jacksonville, FL), Anna Anderson Hill (
Pittsburgh, PA), and Tallulah Anderson (Upper Marlboro, MD); Brothers: George Anderson (Yvonne,
Pittsburgh, PA), Calvin Anderson (Angela, Asbury Park, NJ), and Dwayne Anderson (Mary, Las Vegas, NV); A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends
Greg will forever be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his love of family, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
