Gregory Bulinski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2025.
Gregory Paul Bulinski, 71, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at UC San Diego Hospital, in the presence of his loving family and friends, while the surrounding hills of San Diego County settled following a 5.2 magnitude morning earthquake.

Born in Chicago on August 6, 1953, he was one of six children. The family moved to Ely, MN, when Greg was 6 and he soon learned the value of hard work and resiliency while helping out at his parent's resort on Snowbank Lake, and later at their canoe outfitting operation on Moose Lake. Bitterly cold winter days and marathon-long summer months spent working at Snowbank fortified Greg's work ethos, preparing him for a celebrated professional life in law.

A graduate of Macalester College and the University of Minnesota Law School, Greg joined Bassford, Lockhart, Truesdell, & Briggs (now Bassford Remele) as a defense attorney and practiced for nearly 40 years in Minneapolis. During this time, he was the President of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, and served in leadership roles on various diversity committees and task forces.

A California boy at heart, Greg relished his retirement years at his homes in San Diego and Palm Springs. One of his greatest enjoyments was his many international travels with his partner, Charles, most recently a trip to London in January. Frequent visits with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends were also highlights, as well as his days spent in and around the pool, habitually with a good book in hand. A connoisseur of chocolate (he didn't discriminate) and burgers, meals shared with Greg were filled with lively conversation and his indelible wit, often lasting hours.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores and Emery, and older brother, Earl. Greg is survived by Judith Hannigan, Charles Johnson, and children: Lib (Kat) and Ted (Sami), grandchildren: Lucy, Lauren, Ellie, and Aile, and siblings: Bill, Pam, Trish, and Becky Falk, as well as many nieces and a nephew.

The Bulinski family expresses its deep appreciation for the medical care Greg received at UCSD Hospital and by its staff.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Memorial Hall, McNamara Alumni Center (200 SE Oak St, Minneapolis, MN 55455) at 11:00 a.m., with the opportunity for friends and family to share their wonderful memories about Greg. Lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The Parkinson's Foundation or the University of Minnesota Law School.
