With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Gregory Howard Bybee, who passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 58, at Steele Memorial Hospital in Salmon, Idaho of severe pulmonary hypertension.
Greg was born on March 30, 1967, in California, to Grant W. Bybee and Mary R. Ransdell. 4 years later he was joined by a new addition to the family, his little sister Marcy whom he became very fond of. As a child, Greg was mischievous and full of adventure, always giving his mother a run for her money.
Greg had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, horseback riding, camping, driving his speedboat mach 1 across the lake, riding dirt bikes, or spending days at the mining claim with his sluice box trying to find gold, he always felt most at home and at peace when surrounded by nature.
A highly skilled welder, Greg took great pride in his craftsmanship and was known for both his precision and creativity. His natural talent for working with his hands extended beyond welding - he spent many years building and working on cars, as well as working as an electrician.
Greg was married twice in his lifetime. His first marriage brought him two sons, Taylor and Riley, both of whom he was very proud of. On August 7, 2009, he married Gina McFarland. Although their union later ended in divorce, Gina remained the love of his life and a steadfast friend he could always count on. Together they shared their greatest joy, their daughter Josie, whom Greg cherished and always wanted the very best for.
Greg lived life with zest and joy, especially in the time he spent with Josie. Together, they built countless memories fishing at the pond, horseback riding, exploring the beautiful mountains of Salmon on dirt bikes, and enjoying special trips to their favorite ice cream shop. He was endlessly proud of her and loved watching her shine in theater and talent shows.
Greg faced many challenges in his life, especially a long struggle with drug addiction. Though the battle was difficult and relapses occurred, he experienced seasons of sobriety and never stopped striving for a better life. His perseverance reflected both his courage and his determination.
At the heart of Greg's life was his faith in his God, Jehovah. He drew comfort and strength from his belief in God's promises and looked forward with hope to a new world free of pain and struggle. His faith was an anchor through both his joys and his trials, providing peace even in the most difficult times.
Greg is survived by his children: Josie Bybee and Riley Bybee. He is also survived by his immediate family:
Marcy and Andy Grant of Payette, Idaho; his niece Kelsey ( Zach) Hundersmarck, along with their three children of Weiser, Idaho; and his best friend, Gina McFarland of Salmon, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant W. Bybee and Mary R. Ransdell, and his son, Taylor Bybee.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date with close family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SJSHS Drama Department:
401 South Warpath, Salmon Id. to further his daughter's passion for performing arts.
