Gregory "Brent" Carnes, beloved brother, friend, and Atlanta community member, passed away Oct. 3, 2024 at the age of 49. Born on December 27, 1974 in Tucker, Georgia, to the late Gregory Dennis Carnes and Susan Diane Carnes. As a lifelong Georgia resident, Brent spent his life embodying humor and kindness in all his endeavors.
Brent had a successful career in the tech industry, but his love and passion was being the founder of Ascension Atlanta, a legendary goth event. Through his dedication to this community, he made a lasting impact that will not be forgotten. He was able to accomplish his dream of hosting Ascension at the Atlanta Sci-fi convention, Dragon Con in 2024. He had a love of movies, especially horror, 80's classics, and science fiction.
He enjoyed critiquing and giving recommendations on movies and television shows, David Lynch's cult classic, Twins Peaks being one of his all-time favorites. Brent's love for the ocean was unmatched, he even carried with him a harrowing tale of a shark attack.
He is survived by his siblings, Keith (Michelle) Atkins, Josh Carnes, Destiny (Lauren) Carnes, Sterling "Chase" Carnes, and his cherished cats.
He had a witty sense of humor and a big heart. He was always there for his friends. Brent's warm spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed by all. He's now watching all the movies on the best screen with the best sound possible.
